I'm kind of new to the community. My background is mostly in programming, but I think i'm up to try my hands at dota 2 items. I still haven't quite figured out a process for making item, but i think its coming along quite nice. The quality seems to be getting better which each successive one I released.

I couldn't find any adequate documentation in terms of particles. could you point me in the right direction?
This should lead you in the right Direction. http://www.workshophatemachine.com/2014/06/04/introduction-dota-2-particle-systems/

this model isn't done. this is just a progress that i placed on sketchfab. there is some triangle intersection that i'm not quite happy with. you might be able to notice some of it in the progress.
Without seeing the tris for the low poly it's hard to say where your problem lies.
It's basically a large cube so 800 tris should be plenty.
I find tracing out the major shapes like this can help you visualize where you need edges the most.
(why do people upload png's? they take 5x the bandwidth as jpgs, slow down loading on phones a lot)
I've kinda put this on the back burner and plan to come back to it later or i might not come back to it at all. I've had multiple issues with mapping, but beside that its fairly decent at the current state. Its fair game if you want the sculpt.
For a first mount, its not that bad. It somewhat plain and boring. the spot patterns seems to suffer a lot from stretching which doesn't make me too happy and in general the textures themselves just seem kind of muddy.
here is the released model on the steam workshop: Item Link

Had to fix the eyes a bit. Didn't realize he looked cross eyed.

I'm still adding detail and still need to make a flying variation.
