I was working through some tough revisions, needed some cheesy metal to power through, and heard Riot had hired Jorn Lande and ZP Theart to record some tracks for the Pentakill album. Can't take it off repeat now.
Hey Justin, that's an awesome soundtrack, I remember absolutely loving the SNES Sim City soundtrack, and would find youtube videos of the themes stretched out to listen to. Good stuff, saved to listen to at work tomorrow.
Simcity - Cities of Tomorrow soundtrack! shades of Vangelis, makes sense since you can turn your city into a Blade Runner-esque distopia with too much Omegacorp development.
also a bit weird to almost here the Sim City theme almost pop up in the composers work on Fringe:

the noisli fan preset is giving me flashbacks to when I worked in a server room - I think I can chock up some of my hearing loss to the constant hum of server fans.
I've been listening to Gypsy Jazz http://www.jazzradio.com/gypsyjazz
Reminds me of the music behind the ol' Pixar shorts
Really Happy & Energetic type stuff

I actually have a bit of a question in that regard - and please don't take it as trolling ! I sincerely mean it.
How come that almost every animator and cartoon artist seem to dig that kind of stuff so much ? I understand that it was, indeed, used in a lot of Pixar shorts ... but it's getting to a point where every animator's demo reel features that kind of music - so much that it is almost distracting...
Again, no trolling here - that's actually something I have been wondering about for a while. I'd love to see cool reels with different music types !
@ Pior, It's a reasonable question , no troll taken
Think of cartoony animation and what do you see.
Really snappy pose to pose animation. Quick little 1,2's with a fleury of action after.
Much in the same way that music is composed.
Rhythm, timing, pacing, atmosphere or 'general feeling' , all play their own part.
The type of music that someone would play behind their animation should somewhat fit or gel
Death metal to Daffy duck may not establish the same composition, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone went that route either. :icon60:
Edit: It's also really easy to annoy people with music, which is why I don't use it.
Music is just one of those things. Everyone has a taste, and it's best not to bitter it up by playing the wrong stuff behind your anims...
Yeah, I can totally see the appeal of jazz music for that - I just feel that it has been used soooo much that it almost starts to detract from the animations themselves. In other words ... I now tend to associate jazzy tunes to overly-animated characters hitting extreme poses for no reason (that is to say, straight out of school demo reels ). To a point where when a reel opens with that kind of soundtrack, I now immediately have a negative bias.
As a matter of fact, when I think of awesome golden age animation (like, clips from The Jungle Book or Fantasia, or an emotional bit from, say, Prince of Egypt), a jazzy soundtrack doesn't seem to fit these at all ; indeed, silence seems much more appropriate as it lets animation beats speak for themselves ...
Anything on mrsuicidesheep's channel If you like chill electronic music, this is the place to get it.
"Our collective passions lie in the art of music and the songs I share is meant to inspire every one of you. The kind of songs that make you enjoy life to the fullest, that send those tingling shivers down your spine and truly take you to a place higher than you could ever imagine. Lying under the glowing light of the night sky and dreaming about the stars, forgetting about the weight of the world and truly being happy in the moment."
I'm going camping with my friends in the woods this weekend and this will be what I'm listening to

I work best when there's no sound including music. When I have to play some music/sounds to suppress noise, I play these:

And some metal to keep me awake when I need to:
