Hello there!

I'm trying my first realistic game character and decided on trying to make Sheldon Cooper from the Big Bang Theory. My reckoning was that he's recognzable and therefore i'd find out where my strengths and weaknesses are.

There's a big probem though, insomuch as i just can't seem to get it to look like him. It looks like a look-a-like, aged by about 40 years and of a different race.

Any help, advice or crits, no matter how brutal; i'd be greatful for. Seriously, i really want to nail this and would love some suggestions on how to achieve it.

All the best and thanks so much in advance!

This is as far as i've gotten - the hair is just a stand in to work out the shape but i think there's bigger problems than that here - i just can't tell what they are.

    Hey :)

it looks for me that his face is a little bit to long ..

and the cheeks should become more volume. I think you should collect more references for his face from all angles.

    Keep it up

ZBrush's see-through feature comes in handy in this situation.

Of Course! Thank you so much! It seems perfectly obvious now that you've said it and i'm slapping myself for not drawing the comparison between reference and sculpt in PS.

Excellent stuff and thank you again! ^^:)^^

So i think that my proportions are a bit better - but the eyes... THE EYES!!!!! there's something lizard-ish about them.

Has anyone got any tips on sculpting eyes and eyelashes, please? Would eyelashes be done by importing little bits of geo from maya and plugging them in to the mesh? How do games characters usually show eyelashes? Sorry for all the questions, i'm still new to this.

Thanks so much so far for the help, too =D

I like the fact he has a little smirk on his face, typical for Sheldon, I'm not so sure about the nose..is it really that pointy?
Can't help you with the eyelashes problem since it's on I have myself.

I'd recommend swapping the default red wax shader for something more neutral like the fast or basic shaders. The greyish cavity map on the red shader can make your shapes a little harder to read accurately.

Ah, thank you! I tried the fast shader material, having always used the red or sculpey and it's so much easier to see it properly.

I also had another pass on the nose and a few bits here and there. I've still got the neck to do properly though. The eyes have more around them and i'm just about to start the hair. I may well just bring in tiny modelled lashes from maya as Sheldon does seem to have very young-cow-like eyes. Any suggestions on eyelashes though would be greatly appreciated =)

Here's the progress so far. Please, if you can see something wrong or where it could be better and how to do it, please let me know ^^

I believe it's usually done by a bunch of planes overlapping each other on top of the textured hair with transparent masks.

I'm sure there's multiple techniques though depending on the style of hair and the length.

The sculpt looks pretty good though, you might be able to use it in your low poly and add more hair strands ontop in your normal map and albedo texture files in photoshop. Just my 2 cents, I'm sure someone with a lot more experience in characters can tell you better.

Thanks very much, Deathstick =) I've decided on getting the body mesh done and trying different methods at the end. I'll do some research into the planes method you mentioned and see if it can make it look any better.

Onwards! to, hopefully, a first completed model, yay! Thanks again ^^

Good progress.I would suggest you to take more time on face. Right now it feels a bit cartoon styled. His eye is popping out too much. Ears aren't correct. Nostrils, jaw line etc. needs lot of work. And his legs are way too short.

Thanks very much, harricool! Is it the whole eye or just the eyeball that's too far out? Also, could you elaborate on the ears, please? Is it more definition to the shapes that are there or just a complete restyle sort of thing?

I think i see the problem with the nostrils and the jawline feels a little too wide and not as poiinty as his facial expressions seem to show. And the legs... yup. the legs. I always felt there was something iffy along the midriff but could never get what it was. Just been staring at it for too long, i think.

Thanks so much for the help =)
