Hey Ive been looking for a free normal mapping program for Gimp. I don't have PS so I can't use the nvidia tools. Does anyone know if there any free programs similar to Crazybump which would allow me to make some basic maps?
Isn't XNormal free? That's what most people use with Blender, which is also free.
In fact, I think Blender+XNormal+Gimp is the de facto pipeline for hobbyists. Some also use Sculptris.
-Edit- My bad, it's late. He was clearly looking for something to convert textures into normals, not bake a high poly.
It's been a pretty long time, but I could have sworn Gimp had a normalize tool built into it innately... Might have been a plugin, I suppose.

Not a generator, but a combiner:

There also appears to be a normal map extension for Paint.net, there may be others.
