Hello all!
I'm starting work on an environment based around Turner's painting "Caligula's Palace and Bridge" Seen
here
The idea isn't necessarily to make an exact copy and work relentlessly to make the environment look identical, I do however want to get as close as I can in relation to positioning, mood, and colour palette. I'm expecting to practice a lot of post-processing effects and natural and foliage modelling. I have started the white box in UE4 and been alt-tabbing to try and line everything up.
Here is a gif that shows the comparison well but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be working on polycount.
I'm setting this thread up so that I can try my hardest to update it quite continuously.
The main issue I'm aware of at this time is what will behind the spawn point or camera or painter however you want to look at it, yesterday I was walking home from work and saw this which I have decided to use as reference for the area behind the spawn.

Because the tiling really doesn't look that nice it will be broken up with roots and foliage added in later or I'll work into the texture a bit more. Each tile is around 260tris. The next step is to make that nice dirt material to fade the cliff into the terrain, then its probably about time I start work on those pesky trees.
Heres an update on the level from the camera.
If the gif doesn't work go here.
