My idea is fairly simple. An underground excavation site of a mysterious ancient Egyptian facility that had some sort of electric or high tech function. The main areas have been mostly excavated, and now the scientists are experimenting with and trying to re-activate whatever this giant facility is.
The idea is to mix high tech modern excavation/research stuff with ancient egyptian stuff. One or two other people in the contest are going with something similar, and I'm liking it. It could be a fresh theme for UT.
This map takes inspiration from Serpentine, my personal favorite map in UT2003. The part that inspired me was having a maze-like floor level that you could fall into, and your gameplay situation would instantly change.
I have really been struggling with this all month in different capacities. I'm a total newb. But I'm passionate about UT, so we'll see what happens. I'll do as much more as I can today and submit in the final thread tonight.

You cant submit to the official finals, so the community is taking this contest over and doing it right by the actual deadline (1 and a half hours from now)
So onto your concept! This is really rushed out the door and thats too bad but what you have going on is cool. Tesla arcs and the Egyptian symbol of the bird statues. I dont know if you have a huge pit and people would have to transverse that or die.
I know exactly the map you're talking about in UT2k, I didn't play on it too much but it was pretty iconic and memorable if it sticks with me after all this time.
Details about it over here.
