Oh damn, Those shields look really awesome. I am actually making Viking Batman, so I am going to make the shield too, so I wonder how you did that. Did you make a low poly, then sculpting, bake normals or some other workflow?
Also the engraving on the axes looks really cool.

i already saw your thread, the concept is quite awesome
for the shield: i created the lowpoly in maya with the nails as floating geometry for baking, sculpted it in zbrush but used xnormal for baking. then just painting over AO + cavity in PS.
next thing to create is either a first viking building or the longboat.
Your props remind me how I bought a GPS navigator ahead of my car The assets look good btw. Looking forward to the environment.
Haha :-) this time i thought i'd do it this way, so i'll definitely have a few finished assets no matter what. But I'm starting the viking ship right now
A viking ship is not just simple boat with two rows of paddles/shields and one sail. It's a warship.
At least, it has two decks or one deck and a cargo hold. Just think about - such ship could have been in the sea up for several month, and there should be place at least for loot, not mention about food, water, armor, wounded warriors, slaves, supplies, etc.
 I'm liking what your doing.
if its of any insperation to you, I visited here once and the boat was amazing, i loved the swooping lines of the planks. You maybe have plenty of ref, but no harm in pointing out some more
I like the shields and the different designs on them, I just think that the colors being used look to fresh like they were just painted. Could use some more fading and chipping and flaking.
So I didn't really have time to make a lot of changes, but I'm calling the ships finished. I'm quite happy how they turned out since I wasn't going for the super realistic historical style. Hope you like it.
Just for the record, Vikings used metal (iron) nails for both shield and ship construction. Those links are pretty informative (and great historically accurate reference). Thus concludes your drive-by history lesson for today.
The assets look nice, by the way. I especially dig the axes.

still a lot to do, but it's slowly getting there next up: sculpting the sails.

Nice boat, anyway.

On this ref. I can see some...but maybe wooden? Dunno. Another thing: bad scale of the side and nails.
also the ship looks really small at the moment, dont know if that is intentional or not.
Here are a few sceenshots from Unity 5.
