Building an ergonomic desk from scratch - What is a good desk for you?

Hey everyone!

I'm learning art full time at home and I'm currently looking to build a desk because mine is... not ergonomic at all. I'm going to make the desk in 3DS Max and give the plan to my father, he is a cabinet maker, he offers me to build a custom wood desk for me.
So the question is, What is a good desk for you and do you have any tips for a more ergonomic desk?

My current desk is about 72'' large, 42'' depth, 29'' tall, he is a little bit too big and it's the maximum space I can use for my next desk. The only things to keep in mind are: I'm using 2 or even 3 monitors and an Intuos medium. I'm also looking for a new main monitor, because I'm actually working on a 42 inches TV and it literally kill my eyes. My second monitor is a 25 inches (HP 2509B)

If you have any picture or idea, feel free to share it,
Thank you all!

    Hi,

your could read this: http://www.computingcomfort.org/educate.asp and measure the values seen here: http://www.computingcomfort.org/create2.asp

I don't know how reasonable it is for your dad to build this, but maybe ask your dad if he can build you a (manual) height-adjustable standing desk. These desks can be used while sitting, but you can also adjust them so that you can work while standing. This way you don't have to sit all day (like with normal desks) or stand all day (standing desks), but you can switch which is good for the back.

    Thank you Skamander!

I'll start to draw a desk with the values you give me, very useful!
I'll give some news soon :)

I was considering building a standing-to-sitting desk for a bit but don't have time for it right now. I don't have the 3d file with me but here is the gist.

The desk is raised and lowered by pulleys. The pulley weights would be slightly heavier than the desk top with all your monitors and stuff on it so that when you loosened the tension knob in the center of the leg shafts the desk would rise. Minimal pressure could cause the desk to lower again and then you just tighten the tension knob on the leg shafts again. ideally the pulleys would be enclosed so that nothing knocked them off but with easy access so that you could adjust the weight.

I also was going to make the top bisected with a hinge so that I could use the Wacom in a better drawing position (like a Cintiq).
