I have been working on my first major project as I begin my journey to become a 3d artist. I decided to go with a floating runestone which I'll present on a small platform with some clutter objects in UE4. I am looking for comments, critiques and any guidance on workflow, presentation, and eye candy factor. Any and all of those would be Appreciated.
I am trying out Substance Designer/ Painter for this project and Im really enjoying them so far. Workflow wise I started with some pen and paper sketches of basic shapes and iterated from there. Once I was happy with my sketch i created a blockout of the silhouette in 3ds max, from there I went to zbrush and beat up the object to form the silhouette you see now. Detailing was done in Zbrush then baked in Xnormal. The textures were created in Substance Designer using multiple bitmaps from my own collection. The textures were applied to the model using Substance Painter then exported to Photoshop for some final detailing and color correcting.
The images shown here are rendered in Marmoset 2 for the initial presentation.
Looking good or bad? Anything I should or should not be doing?.

If you'd like some more technical critiques from people it may help to post some pictures of your wire-frames and actual textures if you want to get more specific.
Im working on an idle animation for the runestone. Ill post a video of that soon.
My current plans for the scene:
- Add glow effect to the stone (In progress)
- add a runic Curcle under the stone proper via decal (Possibly)
- Glowing gem stones near base of runestone
- Sculpt some rocks for ground clutter
- Figure out a way to decorate the base of the scene (vertex paint or sculpt)
Im making the texture for the rock in Substance Designer based on reference.

Lastly a video rendered in 3ds max of the wip animation for the runestone.

Keep in mind that animation is not my goal career. I do feel that it is good to know the basics.
Comments and critiques welcome and wanted as always. Thanks folks!
Did a concept piece to give me more direction on the rest of the project.
C&C welcome.
