My 1st sketch with the good old fashioned pen and paper. Forms are impossible to tell except for me. That's okay because it's a tool for ME to get started!
What is hidden in this image will be revealed in subsequent cleaned up sketches. Thanks for taking a peek at my post

Couldn't get near my computer this whole weekend so I took the opportunity to sketch in pen and paper once again.
My idea for a UT level is an environment made up of the fallen bodies of a massive robot and a giant fish creature after mutual destruction. Players traverse in, out, over, and under these titans.

I modeled the robot head in 3D to use as a base for a paintover. There were more details I wanted to add but this is as far as I got. Wanted to try a 80% 3D render and 20% painting, but I know I won't have the time for this contest so I'm halting 3D and diving straight into 2D

In fact, one of the earliest examples of a human built environment is the igloo like hut made of mammoth bones dating back to around 20-10k BC.
This is a really outlandish idea but it's going to be pretty hard to convey this as a UT map. Huge sprawling maps that take a while to get around seem to be against the twitch nature of UT but we're not designing levels we're designing themes and what a theme this is!
Also Heh I was right on thinking the fish thing was getting impaled by something through the mouth. I'm good at deciphering scribbles
I really approve of the idea, and I think the main "concept" you've got so far is a fantastic shot. It really tells a story, and is pretty unique.
As they've mentioned, its more about the concept art and the tell and atmosphere less so on it's play ability, but I would still be interested to see how you make it look traversable non-the less. Will keep an eye on this one.
Roughing in of color and some adjustment of composition.

if they could make the skin of the monster bouncy or squish under feet it would be amusing lol
