Performance Issue...kind of. Please Help

Hello, so I just started using Maya 2015 for school and I'm having some issues with the viewport really losing its framerate after working in it for about 3 minutes. But the catch is, after I minimize and then bring it back up, it fixes the problem but only for a minute or so then it's back to terrible framerates.

Please Help

Geforce GTX 770 x2 (SLI)
16gb RAM
