Started a little rough but I like your progress. It's got a really clean aesthetic but I have to ask what do you have in your head that you'd envision this as mid-tech?
To me this is definitely more High-tech or Space if we're going by Epic's "Theme buckets" this is totally glossy and clean. Unless you are planning on adding grime and parts everywhere I could see this as a very start of a base for a high-end industrial Liandri facility.
I think it's still mid-tech. I would make a high-tech, and you'd see what's the difference. It's quite clean now, I'll make it more dirt and grime, but that's layer is still work in progress.
Nice update, I like your reflective sheen you've given the floor. I can see this going in a more mid-tech but could still be a gritty high tech area.
I think my only suggestion would be to try to do something of interest to your walls and ceilings, they are pretty stark flat right now and I know Epic doesn't want to go that featureless. The paint overs they provided are from Unreal Tournament made in 1999 but they want to go bolder than just copying the shapes verbatim.
If I were you I would try to brainstorm up some idea of what kind of "Mid Tech Facility" this is. What did you have in mind when you started to work on your idea? It's getting close to the deadline but I still think you have time to make this one stand out more than just a simple texture job.
An idea that just popped into my head while typing this up. Adding a large crane arm, probably robotic in the ceiling. I would cut into the yellow trapazoid like DECK design color you made, or have the upper ceiling be a hole. Show a track for the crane to move on.
Your colors definitely say "Construction industrial warehouse" or something similar to that. I think a sci-fi ramped up gantry crane could easily fit into your theme. I envision this area as either a big storage facility, or a assembly area. Deck 16 has always had oddly placed big giant boxes, so this could bring some reason to that and could offer more cool gameplay ideas like moving fighting in the middle of an active factory as boxes get moved around.
Alternatively, have the crane be on the underside of the lowest platform. It's already going across the whole map horizontally so it's ripe for pickin and transforming it into a track.
In any case, just ideas. Thematically speaking it would offer more to the theme as a unique environment than just a texture job.
Hey codex. I just saw your final version. You really pulled it together even with simple shapes the minor details like the wall plating designs help ALOT than just the flat walls you had here
My favorite deck16 re-interpretation of the contest ! It also follow the kind of 'guidelines' that they spoke about in Epic's video about visual clarity.
Really love this concept, simple and nice.
I would love to work on this level. Maybe with a twist, like a brighter main area with natural sunlight (maybe more of a glass roof, with some nature background, huge trees, some skyscrapers, etc), and some nature taking back its property (some of the glass roof broken, and nature slowly moving in)
