Hi I'm working on the landscape for my UDK project. And I need to make a cave and some other holes through the Landscape. I've tried removing a section, but that takes out a really huge chunk of it. Is there any way I could cut out the small individual faces from the landscape? I've attached a screenshot link below:

The cave entrance will be near the red marked area. Currently I just have some placeholder static mesh rocks over there, but having individual rocks for a certain area in between the landscape stands out too much. My only other option is to make a static mesh, that looks a bit like a landscape and use vertex color on it. So I'd like to know if there is any way I can make it work with UDK's landscape itself. And if not possible, I'm welcome to other alternatives as well.

Open the tools for landscape, and it is the one that looks like a big eye
I had read in some forums that the visibility tool for landscape had some bugs like missing weapon bullets. But it seems to be working well for me now. Thanks man, I'll try visibility paint with static meshes as fillers.

I have tried adding point lights to add some light inside to see if that would fix the issue. But unfortunately, that still doesn't completely solve the problem. I've attached a screenshot below:

I do not like the idea, but I could probably reduce the shadows on the floor by adding more point lights to the torches. I'd rather not do it. Even more of a problem is the the shadows on the walls above.
I had searched the forums and read that setting material to blend_masked might help. But that hasn't worked out in my case anyways. So is there no way to get the lighting to behave as it would normally? You can see the lighting in the entrance area before I decided to remove all the rocks and replace them with landscape in this screenshot:
