A photoshop help question on gradient tool

Hello , I am not sure if I can post it here but I hope so ...

I was doing a map work and I was using the feature of the gradient tool , well I needed to use it , but for some reason when I press the gradient map selecction , it brings up a new layer with the gradient but I am not presented with the window to select the gradient type or any way to alter it ... I am missing something perhaps but I can't find a way to fix ?

There's a toolbar that's by default docked in the right hand side that gives you all the options for adjustment layers like that. The gradient editor should be in there ( or at least, you can double click the thumbnail there to get to the editor).
