Hello! I've been working on this for the past few weekends. There's still a lot to do, it all still feels very empty. I'm planning on making more little props to make it more lived in. The lighting needs a lot of work too but I don't know much about CE lighting so that will probably wait till the end.
There's probably some terrible Japanese translations on the posters too
This looks really nice. I think it already looks very lived in.
If this is a kid's room you could maybe put some toys or the like on the empty floor space.
My only crit is that the books on the floor look quite blocky, you should add some more polys to them to round the spines or make the covers stick out from the pages. The rest of the scene is really detailed so the books stood out to me.
Brygelsmack: Thanks dude. At the moment it's very simple, just a visarea, portal and local cubemap with a couple of ambient lights. You also need a giant global cubemap as well to light the rest of the map.
Like this.
danscott: Thank you. Yes you're completely right about the books, they are literally 6 sides at the moment. I'll fix that right now.
Hello! I haven't had much chance this week to work on the scene but I started creating a few small props and worked on the lighting a little. I have plans to create a tiny bathroom off to the side and I would like to maybe create a corridor outside the door. The base textures need a little gloss work, little too reflective for my liking. Starting to gel a little better now though.
Here's a few updates. I remade the cloth on the bed, I wasn't happy with the low poly. Worked on a lighting a little more and started work on the bathroom area.
Some really solid work Dave That bathroom is very well finished. Aside from some of the black shadowing on some of the surfaces, it's really solid. Can't wait to see what you produce next.
Very cool! You might want to revisit some of the bathroom materials, some of them are looking a bit too much like plastic. Other than that, great work!
Hi tristamus. So the high poly was roughly the same as before, I made it in marvellous and did a little clean up work in Zbrush. For the low poly I used Zremesher, taking the highpoly and decimating down then using zremesher to clean up the topology. I actually ended up doubling the poly count. The original was around 700 I believe and the new one was about 1500. Hope that helps
This looks great - especially the bed.
My favorite part is the little figurines all over the place.
The one thing I'd say is that I agree with some of the other comments: Spend the polys to make this look really smooth, especially in the window and even the bed.
Your work shows that you know how to be efficient as is, and we're finally at the point that vert processing is on the least expensive end of the spectrum. Might as well go bonkers - but that's just my opinion.
Hey Nate, thanks for the comment dude. I do want to revisit this scene at some point so I will defiantly take your suggestions on board. It's still really difficult not to optimize the hell out of everything

I know you said you made the original bed cloth in marvelous designer...
Did you re-do it in marvelous designer as well? Did you just increase the subdivisions on the cloth?
