thanks for answering all these questions, I was also just wondering about your basic texture workflow, ie which different maps you bake for the diffuse and if you use any extra tools for extracting maps like cavity maps and edge lighting maps etc, and if you use any programs like ndo and ddo? I'm trying to figure out how to get such amazing results in production environments
We don't do LODs really, weapons is the only instance, and because how the engine works we dont really loose anything by just baking the 3rd person weapons down to a unique texture, which allows us to push down the tricount and still have better visuals than a normal LOD would give us : )
Incredible work, the game is gorgeous and I'll definitely be using this art dump as reference in future. Detailing high polys is still something I'm not very brave with.
