Modelling With ZBrush + Mixamo

I posted a thread on GameDev.net about using ZBrush to create models for games but was referred to here to talk about it. Also they said something about doing 'retopology' and then baking 'normals' from the higher-poly version.

I am sort of lost at this point and was wondering if you can do a step by step list or perhaps and preferred a video tutorial on how to do this, as well as adding how to do rigging and then animating for Unity.

Another question i was wondering, would I have to do retopology for objects without animation such as furniture or anything?

Also, I found a program called Mixamo who allows you to rig characters in a few minutes, and that sounds pretty good...but for it being so quick, i wasn't sure if it'd be good...so I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it so I would know whether it's good or not.

I recently used Mixamo to rig a character for a game I created in Unity. I found it to do a very good job and is one of the only "one button" solutions which I have found to actually work. I also modelled the main character in Zbrush and retopologised and create normal and diffuse maps. I wrote a full breakdown of the process for a college project. It can be found at www.adrianfielding.com/making.html

for game you can't use the high poly models you make in zbrush, so you need to make it low poly, hence retopology which you can go right in zbrush, but to keep all the detail scultping you did in zbrush you can use normal maps and ambient occlusions maps along with your texture maps so you need to bake out normals from your high poly model to low poly, you can use xnormals for this and animations are another area but not complicated. Digital tutors has excellent tutorials on the whole process step by step so do some research

Thank You, I wanted something a bit more indepth but I did find a great series of tutorials on the Digital Tutors website.

Also, I was curious exactly why you can't have high poly models inside your game engine? Is it possible but the game will be uncontrollably laggy or is it unable to be imported into the Engine or will it be something to do with the animation going funny or what?

yeah game engines can only handle certain amounts of polygons before it starts to get laggy and you want your games to be as smooth and responsive as possible. that is the basic underlying reason
