Here are some rough sketches to start this off. It's a trike with flying capabilities. The wingspan is designed to fold down against the vehicle when driving on the ground, and there are harpoon launchers above each rear wheel for attacking from the air.
Female pilot, inspired by WW2 fashion to a certain degree. Pretty boring costume concept though.
I'll have another pass on the blockout soon, I'll explore making the shapes look chunkier, like in the concept.
I'm trying to figure out these references. Anyone feel like explaining what the red /orange plate thing is that shows up in all of them? (and while you're at it, also name the components hanging around it so I can look them up) Thanks.
I really really like the concept but the vehicle seems heavily armored considering it's supposed to be a light vehicle. There a strong feeling of weight that could be attenuated IMHO .
"(T)he red /orange plate" serves to mount and compartmentalize the engine. I bought a VW model kit and created an engine from the reference photos I took. If you want to take a look at the .obj, pm me. I used it in my Beetlebaht mech.
No it doesn't, I own a few Beetles and know them intimately. That "plate" is actually a shroud for the fan, seeing as they are air cooled. It directs the air from the fan over the cylinders of the engine cooling them down. The only part of the engine that mounts to it is the alternator/generator.

And an updated concept:
Here is my progress on the 3D blockout. It's hard to judge if this thing feels right.
How many of you will be rigging and skinning your characters to pose them?

Anyway it's really cool to see original idea : ]
Edit: Thanks for the feedback, Ithoual.
I don't plan on doing much more with this high poly character, so hopefully it looks good enough. Vehicle high poly should be next.
