Really nice work Orchidface! I feel like you're really getting past that "Unity look" with a lot of these screenshots.
Thanks for checking it out! I think the reason I love Unity is the very thing that has given it a bad reputation for graphics. Its a blank slate. One kind of has to piece together their own lighting model.
Eastshade is a game where you play
as a painter who can paint anything you see. Painting is core to the
game. The game is aware of the time you made the painting, the place,
and objects that are in the painting. Certain puzzles are solved by
making paintings of particular compositions, and the NPCs will
commission certain paintings from you as well. Here's a little peek:
Interesting concept. The paintings on the canvases look more like usual in-game camera shots. Maybe apply some special filters to the screenshots to make them more oil-painting like?
beautiful work overall man! what a huge undertaking this must be. I'm glad I found this thread. like @mrgesysuggested maybe add in the ability to paint using different styles (abstract, impressionism, etc.)?
Thanks for checking it out @LordScottish@Ahuri@mrgesy@theblueturtle_! We are indeed considering style options. Its the type thing we'd need to find a gameplay reason for and we haven't quite come up with one. We'd love to make the paintings look more painterly as well, but image filter coding isn't something I know how to do.
I'm just speculating a random idea for the image filters, but what if you create a filter substance in Substance Designer and ask for image inputs. Link this substance to the material and feed the raw shot image as a texture into the substance which will add some effects such as dirt/ scratches and oil-like properties. Just saying haha
Additionally, in an altogether unfocused effort to share my development progress, I present Dev Lapse 2! Its a narrated time lapse of making a building.
Would love to see more videos like this from you. LOL'd hard at your disclaimer about eating the pizza. This work is really inspiring!
this is really cool! Unity is my engine of choice as well, and its always great to see someone who knows what their doing with it. Unity gets a poor reputation in the graphics department, but as you've shown it can go as far as you'll take it
Hey everyone we have a big announcement regarding what's going on with this game!
In September 2016, we chose to take a break from Eastshade development
to make a small Eastshade spinoff called Leaving Lyndow. The reasons for
this were threefold: Firstly, as an independent studio who has never
shipped a game, we feel unprepared to manage the logistics of a large
release like Eastshade. You only get to launch a title once, and we feel
one misstep could compromise four years of perseverance. This small
game gives us a chance to experience the process. Secondly, we want
additional funding to supplement Eastshade’s development while still
remaining independent. Finally, we feel Leaving Lyndow enriches the
Eastshade universe, and is a great way to begin building out the world
for people. We want to allow you all in to Eastshade’s world right now!
So without further ado, we present the official trailer for Leaving
Lyndow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QOhu4iklCU&t=1s
We realize releasing a small game right in the middle of development of a
larger game isn’t conventional, so here’s a little further explanation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYa5tdsrcBQ
Love the ambience you've achieved in the environment, grounded and yet fantastical. Best of luck with the spinoff, I think it's actually a pretty great idea
