I can spare some time to watch a movie everyday in bus at work, some people were recommending "a beautiful mind" and star wars, what are the movies that you recommend and why ?
Howl's moving castle, Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind, etc: as mentioned above Ghibli.
Cold Souls, Stranger than Fiction: Awesome weird, underrated.
Leon: Just Cool. Also Young Natalie Portman.
Cabin in the Woods: A homage to horror movies.
La Hein(The Hate): Drama.
A Scanner Darkly: Deeply Poetic
Yeah i mean i could give a list of awesome movies...but i really got no clue if you would like them?!
like:
Confessions
Kamikaze Girls
Love Exposure
Why don't you play in hell
Oldboy
Thirst
I'm a Cyborg but thats ok
The Chaser
The Host
Guilty of Romance
But i guess of you are absolutly 0 into japanese / korean cinema and got nothing for insanity / violence this an absolutly useless list
Instead of screen upon screen of movies which's origin shall not be discussed further, how about giving some must watch movies. Not wanting to sound like a dick, but it's kinda hard to gain anything out of that aside from "wow a lot of AVIs and MP4s"...
One of the most holy shit movies i have ever seen must be Festen (the celebriation) by Thomas Vinterberg. Just a freaking Masterpiece.
I mentioned before Love Exposure....4 hour epic japanese masterpiece on love, religion, perversion...just a mindblowing flick about love against all odds...my favorite movie
Confession, Tetsuya Nakashimas masterpiece. An middle school teacher claims to have infected two Students with HIV whom she deems guilty of killing her 3 year old daughter...then all hell breaks loose. Loving Japanese cinema for a reason.
I saw the Devil...brutal masterpiece in a bit of a twist of oldboy. A killer murders the pregnant wife of a korean secret service agent who is out for revenge...freaking mind blowing thriller that takes no prisoners.
Enter the Void...just a weird ass movie...an LSD trip put on screen.
GO, a korean born japanese fights racism in mid 90s japan. Featuring a couple of my favorite actors and handling a very important topic for the country and just beeing a great youth / coming of age movie.
The Secret in Their Eyes: Argentinian movie about a retired detective that revisits his most memorable case to see what happened to those involved.
The Lives of Others: German movie that centers around the lives of an artist and the Stasi agent that is tasked with watching him.
City of God: Brazilian movie that tells the story of a group of friends, one of which becomes a drug lord and another becomes a reporter that writes about him. Based on a true story.
Incendies: Canadian film about two siblings that have to find out who their recently deceased mother actually was in order to fulfill the terms of her will.
Headhunters: Norwegian film about an art thief that steals a painting from a...very bad person, and said person sets out to get him.
"Jiro's Dream Of Sushi", about a Japanese sushi master who supposedly makes the best sushi in the world and who attained this reputation through a lifetime of perfecting his techniques.
"Tim's Vermeer", about the co-founder of Newtek the maker of Lightwave, who went on a multi-year painting project to discover or re-discover how Vermeer did his photo-real paintings. Vermeer if you don't know was an artist from the 17th century and his technique was never known for over 300 years. And Tim Jenison, the subject of this documentary, was never trained nor experienced as a painter. But the result of how he "figured" Vermeer's technique out is mind blowing.
No spoilers, it was still a lot of grunt work to pull out.
well it realy depends on what you like in movies, but i'll just list some of my favorites:
Blood and Icecream-trilogy (shawn of the dead, hot fuzz, the worlds end)
Kingdom of Heaven
Dark City
Captain Phillips
Project X
Chronicle
The Life of the Others
The Hunt (2012)
believe it or not, maybe movies are not the best for me, i started to read some books... i have started with harry potter and the sorcerer's stone, it is not a long book.
The Thing (1982 version)
Big Trouble in Little China
Overboard
Escape From New York (LA was cheesy but fun, but New York is a classic)
