Hello everyone, Ill begin by saying thanks to all of you for creating such awesome community, yesterday I found polycount forums, and enjoyed then a lot.
I think I write in the right section of the community, if not, delete the thread, and I hope all of you are newbie friendly:). Also I searched the forum for my question, but I found nothing regardless my topic.
So I'll begin.
I am a newbie in 3D Max, and other 3D Software. So I have some questions on the correct workflow and other things in this topic, doing this I will not flood the forum with 10000 threads.
So. My problem that.
I modelled a column in High Poly.
But it have a lot of poly's, so I decided to make a normal map with all that bump details.
I made a simple Low Poly cylinder. And because it needs to be very very long,
I made this kind of trick with Unwrapping.
I don't know if this approach is good...
Then after unwrap I've put a Projection modifier, picked the HP model, and baked it in X-Normal.
Thats What I've got.
Question. How should I bake the normals so It will add more volumetric(?) feel to the low poly column.
I dont know, the correct approach, please guide me a little bit.
Thank you.
Also One Question
I've modelled a tower from L2.
I want to unwrap it. So this is kind of a tricky question that really bothers me a lot.
How should I Unwrap this part cause its kind of repeating, BUT if ill unwrap it at one same texture coordinate in UVW, ill be restricted how I will make each one part of this "wall" Unique by not adding some unique texture.
On the other hand if I will make this each peace unique UVW coordinate, I'll need to make bigger texture.
Also a question, what if i want to add detail in ZBrush, Is it worth it? After make a HP version Ill need to make for it retopology right? For every border bump or imperfection that Ill Add?
Thank you all, and I'm really sorry of this big ammount of text, I'm kinda really excited about this forum) So Excuse me))

For the column normal map, try flipping the green channel.
For the building UVs, take a look at modular techniques.
