Hi Guys,

I've been asked by a client to apply a dapple-like effect on some cloth(see image attached). I immediately thought it would be easy within Zbrush through the use of alphas, however am struggling to comprehend on where I can find some similar alphas; or if theres an easier alternative?

If anyone could shed a little light on achieving a result like this in the shortest possible duration that would be great :)

Cheers

    Are you talking about the little lumps in the cloth?

    What the heck is a dapple?

    A big part of an artists job isn't finding something that someone else made and using it, it's creating it from scratch if you need it. So why not make your own alpha? I'm not really sure what a dapple is so I'm at a loss to say how to move forward, but could you paint it? Could you take a photo of it and base your alpha on it or paint over it?

    Thanks for the quick response guys and apologies for not giving abit more info.

    @ Stevston89 -
    Yes I'm talking about the little lumps of cloth that have formed. They are an irregularity in the material and stay like that regardless of how it flexes, sort of like when something's been folded several times over and it remembers those crease lines - however in lumps ;p The terminology I've been given is "Gaufrage".

    @Mark
    Apologies if I came across abit brash! I will happily make my own alphas no issues I just wondered if there was some brush settings others could recommend to get a similar result without putting too much effort into it. The only image I've been provided is the image I've posted; I don't have a physical object in front of me for reference :\

    At the moment I'm looking at images of sand lumps etc - anything remotely similar in which I could use to generate an alpha.

    Cheers

    You could just sculpt out something and turn it into an alpha. It's really not hard. Artforgames posted a tutorial like a week ago on how to do it:

    all i see there are simple strokes on a low level and then going up a few levels, tada "dappling" done, no need for custom alphas here. unless you have A LOT of these things to do.
