I've been hearing that this will be free to play. Is that true?
It actually makes me more interested in trying it out, since my friends and I looove any kind of co-op games.
I'm pretty sure it is, I don't recall exactly but I thought Crytek made a statement about focusing on making independent F2P games along with their Gface service. They also announced a F2P MOBA called Arena of Fate, and they already released Warface which is F2P.
i am sad, crytek bought one of the most kickass studios for stylized game, and the the game isn't even close to as stylized as it could/should be. it's very stylized for crytek but really, this is sad, show the world that your engine can do more pleaaaase
Ryse dev's new game is basically Left 4 Dead meets Castlevania
Say hello to HUNT: Horrors of the Gilded Age
Crytek has revealed HUNT: Horrors of the Gilded Age, a third-person, free-to-play action game for up to four players for consoles and PC. Which consoles? That's for them to know and you to speculate about. The game will be sold under Crytek's "games as a service" model, which presumably means it's a free-to-play affair.
HUNT is set in the late 1800s, when "so-called myths and folklore actually point to the terrifying truth about evil lurking just beyond the fringes of day-to-day life". Players must "band together to fend off an onslaught of bloodthirsty creatures and track down breathtaking bosses". A procedural generation system creates new versions of environments and different sets of enemies every time you play. "Defeating bosses will require close collaboration between hunters as they attempt to figure out and take down some truly terrifying monsters."
According to David Adams, CEO of Crytek USA, "players will be counting their bullets and crying out for help as they delve deeper into the shadowy world we've created. From the outset of the development process, we've poured our imaginations into the game so that everyone who plays HUNT will discover a challenging experience that feels fresh, captivating and rich in possibilities." Crytek USA, incidentally, is composed of former Vigil developers - the people behind THQ's Darksiders series.
Beta testing will begin on PC later this year, which suggests that the game won't be released till at least 2015. Check out the official site for lurid artworks of hats and things.
Looks really fun to me! Reminds me of Resident Evil 4 Mercenaries along with The Haunted:Hell's Reach, with some Left4Dead elements thrown in as well. There are also some pretty unique ideas in there also, I love the fact that some of the monsters can grab and execute you if you aren't rescued by a teammate.
The art style is pretty badass also, and it's F2P which is pretty great in my opinion, can't wait to play!

The game looks like it could be very interesting though, I just signed up for the beta! I'm glad to see Crytek working on so many new projects lately.
