NEED HELP with 3ds max problem

Hi.
I'm working on this structure for a game, and I have a little(?) problem here.
As you can see, i applied same material to the top and the lower top part(they are 2 different obejcts) and they have different shades of gray.
How do i fix this? It really shows in game and is really annoying.
I already checked the smoothing groups, tried to retriangulate, everything. I'm out of ideas, please help me.

Yeah, its a vertex normal issue due to the fact that you've splitted your object. So it looks like you have 2 smoothing groups.
To fix it, you have to edit manually the vertex normals, making what is called "custom normals"
Select both objects, apply en edit_normals modifier and unify the vertices on the broken line.
But why not simply combine those 2 objects and weld points ?

Well, i'm using blend maps, and i had to put the Second bottom part in separate material, so i can't merge them. I'll see what i can do with the custom normals

EDIT: I am doing something wrong, or this method doesn't work ? :/

EDIT2: I think i may have found the solution. Instead of unify, i clicked average, and it fixed it(i haven't done the whole thing yet, but it looks promising :) )
