Is there a title for some one who specializes in materials?

I'm re-doing my resume and there's something I'm not sure about. For my last freelance gig, I had to teach myself how do some very specific glass materials. What would this job be called? Or is there even a specific name for it?

I also did the modelling, texturing, and lighting. But since it was a central part of the project, and it was one of the things I'm most proud of, I definitely want to draw attention to it. How should I refer to this on my resume?

My official title at the moment is Texture Artist, so I mostly deal with textures and shaders in a much more in depth way than the standard environment artist. With the next generation of games focusing more heavily on shaders, dedicated texture artist positions are becoming more common with the best examples probably being at studios like Naughty Dog. For most studios complex shader work will fall on the tech artists as well.

texture artist, shader artist, material creationist, whatever...honestly the name title doesn't really matter as much as the pictures you show in your resume. most projects would kill to get the hands on someone who masters materials and lighting. it is a big part of what next gen is all about. just make sure you points these things out in your next interviews.

    good luck
