Sketchbook: Graeme Borland

Hi everybody! Thought I would start up a thread here to encourage myself to keep working hard on improving my skills. Critique is very much welcome, I always appreciate comments on my work and what I could be doing better.

I've been doing a sketch a day since Jan 1, 2012 (the project also has a tumblr). I started out as a 3D artist (and still consider myself to be one), but most of the work I have time to do these days is 2D. So, I'll be posting whatever in this sketchbook just to show what I'm working on and get feedback, but chances are it'll mostly be 2D.

Anyway, enough text. For my first post I'll put up some recent stuff as well as some slightly older things, to give you a better snapshot of my current body of work.

I've got hundreds and hundreds of sketches up on my sketch site, with a new one going up every day. I also have a youtube channel with some sketch-related videos showing my process.

One of my goals right now is to focus on leaning myself towards concept art rather than illustration. A lot of my work is very atmospheric and abstract, I don't like working with lots of detail, but I want to be able to create pieces where people can actually tell what objects are, rather than just seeing shapes and colours.

I'll end this post with a WIP of the piece I'm currently chipping away at. Usually I work on my long-term pieces on weekends, so it's a bit slow going, but I will do my best to keep posting updates here! (I'll spare you the daily updates of my speedpaintings, check out my tumblr if you want to follow those!) Thanks for checking out my work, and again, critiques are welcome and appreciated, especially on my WIP stuff like the one below :)
