CG Instructor Needed for DigiPen - Redmond, WA

Full-time Digital Art and Animation BFA Faculty position: CG Modeling and Texturing Instructor
Location: DigiPen Institute of Technology Redmond, WA campus (https://www.digipen.edu/)

Qualifications:
· Preferred:
· MFA degree in art or media related field.
· Teaching experience and/or demonstrated training experience.
· Extensive professional experience in art, not necessarily limited to computer/video games or animation.
· Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

· Minimum Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in art or media related field.
· Relevant industry experience is desirable.
· Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Key Activities:

· Lecture and teach in a classroom setting on a daily basis.
· Teach fundamentals and advanced topics in character and environment modeling, texturing and lighting using Maya.
· Provide artistic and technical support for students with understanding of game-specific challenges, restrictions, and shortcuts.
· Provide artistic and technical support for 3D character and environment creation workflow.
· Provide artistic and technical support for modeling and texturing projects.
· Provide creative direction and criticism to students on assignments. This can include character and environment design, modeling techniques and workflow, UV unwrap tools and strategies, texture creation, meaningful lighting, shading and rendering solutions.
· Teach problem solving – students need to constantly strive via research to optimize, fix and enhance an effective CG production pipeline.
· Study and maintain an understanding of current trends in game and cinematic animation.
· Work closely with CG and traditional art faculty to develop an ongoing and constantly improving curriculum that reflects industry trends.
· Organize and manage time efficiently for multiple classes.
· Grade, critique and input assignment data on a weekly basis.
· Act in the capacity of an academic advisor for students.


Essential Requirements:

· At least 7 years experience modeling and texturing characters or environments in the role of Character Artist or Environment Artist in a game or cinematic team.
· Highly proficient in lighting and rendering in Maya.
· Exceptional skills in modeling and texturing hard surface, organic characters and environments.
· Experience with CG lighting tools and techniques.
· Artistically and technically competent in shader creation techniques, including multiple UV mapping, AO, Normal, Subsurface Scattering and specialty shaders for multi-pass rendering.
· Very proficient artistically and technically in Photoshop painting both realistic and stylized textures for environments and characters.
· Proficient in Sculpting high-resolution environments and character models in Zbrush or Mudbox.
· Understand and can articulate how to do advanced UV Mapping and unwrapping of organic forms.
· A Portfolio showing exceptional CG Modeling. texturing, sculpting and 2d art skills.
