Sculpted in Zbrush to get Ambient oclusion and normal.. Doesn this still count as Hand Painted Texture ?

I would still consider it hand painted. The wood looks pretty saturated though. I would try and stay away from having the cracks go into the pure black colors as well. Be careful with adding noise on metal parts. The noise is making the metal bands read more like concrete.
Thanks for the feedback guys.. I am not happy with it either.. Need a lot to improve, just wanted to see if i can paint ! Zbrush passes was a cheat though..
Here's an earlier try, Pure hand painted..
Not really, AO/Normal are used to DO the texture, they're usually not used, except for character. It doesn't really feel handpaint either. It looks like you put a picture under your normal/AO of a stylized barrel and that's all. Handpainting mean HAND, nowadays people used normals map because it save time, but it still need to look like you painted it and not just like a stylized sculpt and you stack up picture to do the texture.
I know that Fanny Vargne artist working for Blizzard atm if i remeber correctly. She posted her handpainted texture workflow in the Vertex magazine Vol2 found here http://www.artbypapercut.com/downloads/ and she used zbrush to get Ao and heightmaps I belive. Check that out.
I think i will keep testing different workflows and styles. Plus learn about colors and values etc..
Thanks for the link onewinged. Very helpful magazine.. Oh What i did was exactly the same as Fanny Vergne did. Maybe I should have said Stylized then instead of Hand painted
