Hi Guys,
This is my first post on PC... Thanks for viewing my post.
I was just wondering that do you HAVE TO have a reference image to model and create an character? Or can you model with out any reference images. Or do you draw your own reference images??
I tried creating an character from just the front view and found it really hard to model.:poly127:
Is that OKAY? I know its just an simple character but I just had trouble by the mouth part.
I look forward to hear your opinions.
Thanks,
Iki

Regarding reference, why not use reference? There's no reason not to use reference. For something like accurate human representations reference is crucial as we as humans can recognize when something is off when we look at another image of a human, but have a harder time nailing exactly what is bugging our brains about it(hence the uncanny valley)
Often times what some people don't realize when watching speed sculpts or other veteran character artists work is they either have reference off on another screen or are working with subject manner that they are intimately experienced with and have an internal library of memory reference stored up after years of staring and examining real life reference.
Granted there are always times to just let your imagination run wild, but good reference is what's missing in most peoples art, character or otherwise.
You guys are awesome. Just what I needed to know.
