Hey Guys!
My first post here on Polycount and its about hand painted textures. I'd really like to get into hand painted textures so I can get on with creating some scenes within UDK for my portfolio.
I love the style of games such as Diablo III, League of Legends and DOTA etc. and would love to create my own assets that would fit well within these games. However I'm a complete newbie at it and I'm struggling quite a bit, it's much harder than I thought it would be haha.
I've circled through the internet trying to learn more about it and had myself a go (see the image) and obviously its awful. I'd be grateful if someone could give me some advice on how to go about creating hand painted textures.
Thanks in advance for any and all help

Use a larger brush than you think you should. I know myself and a lot of people I see starting out use real tiny brushes. Work large to medium to small!
That was going to be my response - work big to small, just like you would in modelling
This also makes it easier to make changes earlier in the texture if you don't like the way its looking
And thanks for the tip there Jeff Parrott, I shall be sure to take your advice and see if I get better results. (I'm also a Parrott too, so good to see there are other artistic Parrott's out there haha! )
