Hey guys.
I've been working on a concept by Konstantin Maystrenko that someone pointed out to me on CGHub a while ago. Found it again recently and decided to take a crack at it!
Pending criticisms and inevitable changes, i think the turtle part is getting close to done. After that, i'll start working on the backpack and weapons. Keep in mind that i took a few creative liberties regarding a few aspects on the turtle, so my interpretation isn't the exact same
Regardless of how good/shit this turtle tuns out, definitely check out Konstantin's work

Cheers!
Edit: Done!

I love the puffiness of the clothes, and the tmnt action figure in the back pocket :P
Keep up the great work!
I hadn't even considered this, i thought he was barefoot (which is why i was confused at his white head skin and black feet 'skin'). I think tabi would look badass....or Crocs maybe :P Good call
Little update. Finished the backpack, grenades and bullet chain. Working on the gun now
Based on your finished work I'd say just make sure you give it a strong material read. The couple of finished pieces you have seem to look plastic all over. I'd say this is a great way to really push your material knowledge.
Looks really good so far!
lmao Crocs! yes please
The straps are just very loose and not touching the body of Sgt. Yurtle. You followed the concept well, but i think that the concept is incorrect with the tension in those straps. Check out these refs.
@Wester - will do
@Ripper/ZacD - Yeah there are alot of smaller inconsistencies with the concept - my interpretation was that the ammo crate was maybe attached the the molle/vest? Idk...either way its weird. I'll give an update with an iteration that has tighter straps - you guys can judge
Thanks for the kind words guys, very cool.
Model is coming along nicely as well!
Been getting back to the turtle. Quick material pass - still fiddling to get it more similar to the concept. Crits welcome, but be aware its just an initial material pass - its ugly! :poly122:
@Genwu - I ended up going with a soft leather tabi for the feet.
Getting closer to finishing the texture on this guy. I've also baked the backpack and gun assets ^^)
Character is around 24k. Backpack and accessories + gun are ~10k.
Edit: Nobody noticed that i put the trigger inside the grip on the gun. *backs away slowly*
Haha, never noticed the Adventure time pins in the concept art.
For the smaller line details that are sunken into the mesh, did you model those into the high poly or did you use floating geo and bake it in? I'm working on a scifi gun atm and it has similar details, and I'm not sure how to tackle them.
Thanks! (lets never speak of that trigger again) Yep for those lines i used floaters. I'm not a strong hard surface modeler, so i find it much faster. I'm just trying to get a nice bake. The lighting in the render is really diffuse, so i got away with it.
Looking forward to see more updates!
Cool thanks, is it just a box with the top missing and flared?
The gun texture is coming along. Should finish that in the next day or two and hit up the backpack/ammo belt.
@Rodgon - thanks!
@Rogue - yep
@Stinkhorse....thanks? haha
All that's left is rigging/posing now
Done!
A lot !
absolutely in love.
If there would be anything I should comment on then on maybe pushing the materials a bit more into the realistic corner
