I have recently been getting into speedpainting since I've graduated from animation school. Throughout my three years, I found myself gravitating more towards the concept side of how animation and studio pipelines work. I really loved animation as a whole, but telling a story through how things work really spoke to me.
It's been a long few years, but I'm hoping to reach that goal.
Among speedpaints, I have a number of different things to work on: first is refining my knowledge of the fundamentals!
Critiques are the best way to learn a new perspective and I would love to hear some thoughts from others on my work!
I haven't posted here in a while!
I've been really busy between studying and my part time job, but I have been drawing plenty!!
Here is a new goober I'm working on!
Day three! Master study of John Signer Sargent's "A Gust of Wind"
I'm hoping to do some more concept work that I can show off here too soon, but these studies will be here for the next little while!
Thank you so much!! I really learned a lot about colour, especially from the backgrounds I did.
I have a new project in mind that I'm really hoping to apply these lessons to!
Hey everybody! I've been off and on with this forum for a few months now due to some personal things. I am going to try and post and comment a lot more (but don't hold me to that ^^; ). I love getting critiques and comments from all of you lovely people here and I really want to contribute more to the community!
So I've been doing a lot of work with backgrounds the past few months. Actually, I've been practising things all around for the last few months and just trying to chip away at weak points slowly, from landscapes to human anatomy.
A fun thing I came into doing a little more was adding 3D elements to my drawings, so I opened Maya the other day and started blocking out things, then adding them to photoshop and seeing how much farther I could push shapes.
It needs some more work, but for the most part I think I'm okay with this being unfinished because I want to take what I learned and apply it to a new piece.
Hey guys!
I'm working on finishing as many pieces as I can this month. Normally, I'd rush through a bunch, but I'm really trying to slow down so that I can take all I can from each one. I've been working on this environment paintover for a few hours now and I could really use some fresh eyes.
I don't think it's anywhere near done, so I'd like to get some pointers on the lighting in particular.
Jungles are weird ;;
I never get tired of these~
I was really trying to focus on where things were in perspective in the ground work of the pose, then I turned my focus to the lighting when I began to colour.
Here's another recent character painting of mine. Kept in mind the shadow this time! I really like how much better it pulls the piece together!!! @ralphosn thanks for that little tip!
Cool characters! I like the colour schemes you are working with, they are each distinct. For the guy with the orange hair you might want to consider moving his hand that is in a fist slightly to the left, it looks like he is pinching his hair, and when you have a strong gesture like that you usually want it to pop out on its own. (unless he is actually grabbing his hair in that case you should exaggerate/change the gesture, right now it is confusing.)
Thanks, @eveyart ! What's funny is that I drew the above character to be a very buff girl... so clearly that didn't come off as such, haha! I'll be updating her for future reference~ In the meantime, I'm going to try and post more art!

Here's another creature. Something of a redo to one of my old ones!
Reformatting an older concept with some new art!
Hope this looks a little more professional now!
Got another one done yesterday!
Looking for a faster approach o painting things, or at least one that's more organized!
Got another one done! This one was for a friend as per requested!

I also stumbled across some Sonic Generations mods a person was doing and threw in some colours and whatnot to try and make it look fuller:

Thanks so much! I'm finding that paintovers help me gain a sense of atmospheric perspective because I have to be consistent with what's already there.
Got another one done today actually. This one had a lot less in it to work with.

Here is a master study of Sir Frank Dicksee for Day one:
And for Day two I did an environmental study for colours. Picked out a beach photo I liked:

I'm really liking how much faster I can block things in now.
Can't wait to see how you look on day 21.
Thank you so much! I'm trying really hard to keep pushing through these and I'm really enjoying my progress!
On that note, here is today's! I was rather busy today, but excuses don't get a painting done.
I was on vacation for just under a week and now I'm getting back into the speed of things.

Day 14!! I can't wait to line all of these up at the end!!
I'm almost done!
15's focus was to paint something, but do it with everything upside down!
16's focus was on something simple to block as fast as possible
17 was for buildings because I rarely draw or paint them.
and 18's was simply because I wanted cake today~
I'm so glad I finished them all!

Worked on a map of an age old IP I've had cooked up for 9 years or so that will probably never see the light of day.

Thanks so much!! I'm really hammering away at this one!
Here's an update. I've changed the colours quite a bit on it and went for a sunset. I really like warm colours~
Not too happy with the body of the character right now. If anyone's got any critique, I would love to hear it!
