University Project - 3D Modern Crossbow

The is my first hard surface modelling project and is part of my university degree in which i have specialised in weapon creation. I Thought up of an original game idea and created an asset to go in the game, the game idea is a modern stealth shooter that is multiplayer only. Here is the completed weapon which is a grapple hook crossbow with alternative use as a normal crossbow. Here are some images of the modelling and the final finished piece. All rendered in marmoset toolbag 2, Created in 3DS Max textured using photoshop. Total polycount for the model is just over 8,000

it looks like a good start but you have a lot of refining to do.

Yeah that's the one I have based it on! i think the front needed more detailing around the connection of the arms to the main body

    Ok sweet :)

Well it’s a great start! I love the concept as I said earlier

The bow arms need to be curved a lot more imagine a half circle for the shape of the bow arms...also you are missing all the parts that attach it to the stock. also it flairs out at the ends by the axels the arms also change in thickness the base where they connect to the body being their thickest and the point of attachment to the axel being their thinnest.

The axels are missing the details that define them and make them and interesting piece of the gun

The strings need to be intertwined currently you have 4 strings going into the body when in the ref there is only 2
And right now it looks as if the grappling hook is integrated into the actual pulley system...where I don’t see how it would work that way?
I would suggest a winch type device on the front of the bow in between the arrow holder and the foot bar

Your arrow holder needs some loving; it feels as if it was tacked on

the trigger area is a good base but I think you can put some more detail into it right now it is just flat and straight no curvature or anything imagine a pistol you need to make it ergonomic and give it the curvature of the hand

The 2nd bar that leads into the trigger area needs to get bigger the close it gets to the trigger the square bits are the wrong size, they are more rectangular in nature. The top of them keeps the same elevation while the closer you get to the trigger the longer the box gets that’s how you get that really cool silhouette from the side.

the 2nd bar right behind the grip pretty much goes straight down you need to bring it back some also you really need to look hard at the shapes in your shoulder rest they are way off and really need some adjusting

I think this can be really cool and am excited to see this become awesome keep at it man! I look forward to the next wip! :)
