Screenshots help debug problems, so post some of your wires, your skeleton (or armature I guess), and what it looks like in import.
Trigger Warning: I'd really recommend against doing a courier as your first item especially if you just are beginning to enter the realm of 3d art.
so i started a game and saw that my bird was at the right position ... the head and the legs are doing something weard...
outside of the game i have this shit...
and here is the export picture...
i know it doesnt look that nice but i got a lot of faces and just used decimate to get it down to 3000 polygones.
i will do it better when i understand that whole process but as long as im not sure what im doing i leave it how it is...its also not textured just made it pink so dont blame me ^^
this was the original before i got the idea to add it in dota2
and also why does your model looks so jagged? i though the poly limit on couriers were like 2500 or something?

2. done that with the smooth modifier i think it adds polygones if im not completely wrong
i made a lil paintover to show you how i would try to approach it, im sure you get the idea
or can this be my problem that the model and animations ingame look really weard?
THX so far to everyone
Hmm...
i'm not sure, but it can be
1. Something like apply tranformation[XForm]
2. Skin not right
3. Blender export smd error. [open new blend, append your courier and try to export again]
No it no the modifier
just click that button when u are in object mode and everything will be fine (no extra tris)
i dont understand the transformation thing (point 1.) sry... can you explain?
-i will check the export error thing first
-then i will retopo my mesh to be sure that there is no problem with it
thx for the smooth tip! will test it later!
the second one got it to stand in the right position + it moves like it should
thanks so far!
next problem is that it really looks crappy the head and the legs are doing weard stuff but i think its a mesh problem???? i will retopo it when i got time!
oh and the smooth button worked also it looks "smoother" now thx a lot!
i just saw that the head is a bit diffent when i switch to edit mode can this be a problem? cant rest it...i get an "error" can upload a picture when you think this can be the problem
if you show the pictures of these weird stuff, we can tell u what's wrong easier
what does ny mean? newyork? :poly142:
but thx! its nice to know your not alone
nice community here!
retopo is done...
the animation works now better
but not perfect!
3 questions
- i used with envelope waights is this ok?
- the local orientation from my bones are other then my local orientation from my mesh can this be the problem? and how can i change it?
- how can i get rid of these shit at the legs/feets are the faces turned or something like that?
greetings!
someone can answer me these questions?
- i used with envelope waights is this ok?
- the local orientation from my bones are other then my local orientation from my mesh can this be the problem? and how can i change it?
how can i set the local rotation of my bones without rotating them
When starting, dont model the courier like that, make it have a straight neck, it will be alot more easier to animate and stuff
Trust me, It'll save you a lot of work and overall make teturing a lot more easier
after the export the model moves not like it should...can someone answer my last question?
You have to build a control rig.
The process of soloing a courier means that you are undertaking,
concept, HP Model, LP Model, Bake, Texture, Skeleton, Rig, Animate, import, and Promo.
This is why as several others, as well as myself, suggested that it is much better to focus on a single item and learn the process, than go into a solo courier which demands expert knowledge of all fields for just an adequate piece.
the model was not correctly scaled/rotated (not on 0/0/0 scale1)
thx for everyone who helped me so far!
i know that this is not easy got that already
but read the stard i wrote that i wanted to do an animated project i dont do this for profit!
i just want to apply the animation in something like dota2...
so im happy with the outcome so far
next step is making nice animations and adding textures after this!
a long way :poly121: but i hope i can make it
can someone tell me why on side of my courir is brighter then the other? (normal map = all black)
and when i add an normal map its shit quality? (pixels everywhere)
normal map:

...oh shit im retardet
the think is i know this xD
thx man
now i got my first texture try!
anyone got useful tips to upgrade my model/texture?
or critics something missing? want to add some details but dont know what atm...
no i think it misses something but dont know what
congrats
Now design-wise, there is nothing very special about it (like my first item:))
look at the workshop couriers and add some elements. Maybe give him a bag to show that he is carrying stuff and show us how you did the animations(walking, idle, etc) so we get to know more about the character.
BTW where is the flying version?
the flying version is coming...not much time atm...also i dont have all animations done yet
i need to add at least 1 item i know ... maybe a bag im not sure
ingame...
you mean an ingame version? if not, in the top picture is also a flying version
It's not in terms of the size of the texture you are working with but how you have organised your UV islands. I haven't seen your UV layout but judging by your bakes you haven't made use of mirroring really well.
By this I mean you really should only be UV mapping one half of the courier, one wing and probably one leg, then duplicating them to make up the entire courier. This way you are effectively doubling your texture space and increasing the detail and resolution you can get from them.
You seem to have a lot of empty space in your UV layout too. You should try to organise your islands so they you maximise the space available. Pack them tight but not so tight that they begin to bleed when the texture is scaled down in DOTA 2
Comments and feedback are welcome!
