Hey everyone,
I've just started learning 3D this February. I had some awesome support from Peet Cooper and Warby getting into things. I really love it.
I felt like sharing at this point. I'd love to get some feedback on where you think I should improve on.
I'll be posting everything chronologically so the first stuff is the oldest around end of February I'd say. And the last I reworked after GDC.
Let me know what you think!
Cheers

I think the wooden barrels & tables in the first environment (on the right, close to camera) are pretty weak compared to the rest. They look blobby and undefined, and could use their own unique texture - or a new tile that has a highlighted edge so you can shape the models better with the texture.
It's pretty clear that World of Warcraft would be a goal, my only other comment is that it would be cool to see some unique design as well.
Say, would you be willing to share some tips and tricks on this kind of stuff?
Note that Blizzard had similar 'hot spots' on some of their lit windows.
Have you considered using projected textures from the windows in the first scene?
The gray walls, path, and mountain all tend to blur together in the temple. Lightening the walls would help.
Adding a blue shift to the mountains would help to indicate their distance.
There's actually a nice trick they do with that effect for certain looks http://simonschreibt.de/gat/world-of-warcraft-balloon/
Some of the value adjustments between the exterior ground and walls of the temple could probably be adjusted to help separate the two also.
Mind sharing on what kind of workflow you used on creating the textures?
People always say its practice and not talent. I guess its not true, this can only be the result of natural talent pure and simple... some people are born for this
Because otherwise I'm gonna be very upset.
The last shot is a little busy and unclear in its composition; the temple seems to be equally important as the tree in the foreground and the mountains in the background... maybe play with their values to help the temple pop out?
Keep it up .
I've Been a 2D artist for quiet a while now. I've also some game dev experience. .
I've been Artdirect0r and only 2D guy on this game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DncYk8zIh8g so I have extensive experience in tiling and painting.
But I always avoided the whole 3D issue.
I'll try to record how I paint my textures soonish maybe this will be helpful. Still need to learn tons of stuff myself though!
Moose Thanks for the feedback. I'm currently tinkering on a new Scene this time it's my own design I'll be much more focused on the props on this one. Great fan of your textures! WoW would be !
Obscure, Don't say things like that! Go paint more stuff! Painting is awesome!
Dwalker, thanks for the input! I'm still struggling with this but I see what you mean I'll give it a try on my new scene. A stupid question but what do you mean by projected textures ?
Hey Gannon, thanks for dropping by! The background is more or less the same technique I used for beatbuddy since I knew I'd only do the screenshot from on direction i diddnt want to spend too much time on that! =P Here's a screenshot: http://www.the-rogic.com/PIX/Polycount/Unity_Temple.jpg
the snowy mountains are part of the Skybox
Hey TeriyakiStyle. My monochromatic textures were also one of the biggest critique points during GDC I'll try to tackle that next!
Deolol - trust me it's always a lot of practice! You just read February but you don't know how I've spent this time ;P nor what I did prior. I'm known for obsessing over things and work till my fingers bleed =D
0cme, Thanks! I really love stylized stuff. So much fun! I think The chaos also originates from my poor lighting I really need to spend more time on that !
Thanks Jeff and killnpc! Peet and Warby are the best!
And everyone else Just thanks for dropping a line!
I've started a new scene recently. I'm currently visiting My sis in NYC so I'm constantly struggling between 3D and exploring the city
That's how far I got till now but I think I'll do a major face lift on it next week.
Cheers
Hey Fenyce thanks for dropping by! I do hope it looks less monochrome now? Oven will get re haul next
Feedback is more than welcome!
cheers
