Beginner Questions and Self-Teaching

Hello all. I've been trying to wrap my head around 3D for a while now but I'm constantly running into roadblocks. One of the things I thought I might be thankful for would be a place to ask more beginner-friendly questions. I often feel intimidated by the sheer amount of talent and in-depth technical jargon/knowledge around Polycount.

Can anyone recommend me a place that'd be good for small questions? Example whether its best to use separate pieces, or just one continuous character mesh. And if I wanted to use multiple materials(Which I know is not always best) should I separate, or use material IDs for different polygons? How would I even go about using multiple UV maps?

The polycount wiki is a good place to start. So is using google to search polycount: 'site:www.polycount.com <searchterms>'

For continuous meshes I can link you to this thread but you'll have to look around for something more specific to characters. A lot of small questions can be answered by trying and seeing what works. Just browsing the forums will teach you things slowly over time as well.
