Hey guys I rarely post here and I'm trying to do it more and more as I study to improve my skills and get some feedback for different sources.
So first of all I'm not really that strong when it comes to 2D art, but I always like to do it before I start modelling something to give me an idea and also work to improve my 2D work. I am currently doing this concept to then use to create a 3D asset for my university project, the concept being a post apocalyptic bar. I just wanted to ask for some feedback and what you think I could include in the concept to help me when it comes to modelling and sculpting details... thanks!
here is the concept at the moment, Im working in grayscale cause I suck with colour.

I would start by hammering out the basic shape of the building (a rectangle really) but divide it where you are going to add more details like windows or the door. You can make use of quite a few individual props here, but I'd save the banner until after you have the building done. The building should be pretty quick.
No idea if this helps but good luck!
Please take the time to look at pictures of actual bars, make many quick sketches to find an interesting silhouette and think about what this building used to be and what it became in this apocalyptic world, it needs to tell a story.
but I think this is the most important thing;
It does scream post apocalyptic . Impossible to know what cause the apocalypse. Is it zombies ? chemical, Sickness, Solar, Meteorite, dinosaur, civil war ? do you even know yourself what happen ? You really need to decide and make it apparent. WHAT cause is and WHEN did it happen, If it was 5day ago, or 50ago it won't look the same at all, just like a pandemic wouldn't look like a dinosaur invasion.
Everything look clean, the side walk doesn't look like one, at first i even though it was a small road.
Had some stuff that said the earth is screwed. I really doubt people would waste such a big chunk of cloth to wrote "welcome stranger" they could kill you anytime, and you made need that cloth, they would tag the wall directly. The electric line wouldn't be that perfect in the middle of what look like a desert.
Yes the windows are meant to looked damaged in some way, I do paint zoomed in for things like that, It normally looks really weird if I don't, as for the time period and what caused the disaster, I know that I am aiming for a nuclear fallout concept, Iv'e looked at fallout and also a few others game like rage and metro and the film book of Eli. As for time period, its something I have been unsure of really. I totally understand what your saying though and Its really helpful advice, at the moment I sort of left this concept and started something else that has a little more explanation about it and I think it could have potential, what do you think? am I just rushing this stuff?
The concept of this one is suppose to resemble am old bus station that have been used to create a bar after a nuclear fallout the building still standing with minor damage. The whole disaster is meant to be nuclear fallout with mutated creatures and such, much like fallout ^^
I need to desaturate is as-well I think colours are too bright, forgive me if I ramble and don't make sense but this is all me trying to get better
Basically look at the textures of old weathered materials.
