It's cool and all but I can't help thinking it's a lot of effort for the least in game visual impact - all those subtle facial tweaks will be unnoticeable in a 3rd person MMO.
Black Desert Online has a lot of really cool looking features like this, I really think it has the potential to revolutionize the MMO genre as a whole.
As for why this feature is as detailed as it is, my guess is that it has to do with the fact that gamers from asian countries (who love F2P more than anything else) also love buying cosmetic items to change the appearance of their character and so emphasis is always placed on character creation tools and items that let you modify what your character looks like, even if it is a small change like having a tattoo.
I'm more curious on what the development team and budget is like to be honest. This game seems to have had a AAA budget for over 5 years now. Rumor has it the closed beta is coming to north america in 2015 so that's something to look forward to!
With the ability to remove characters from games I can see how this can really change how some can create characters very quickly if they chose to go that route.
It would take time to rip them out though, just saying.
That is pretty awesome editing otherwise though, wonder if you can edit more than just the body parts, clothing, armor, ect?.

Why does Skyrim have extensive character customization? It's not like theres mirrors.
I think it's more about helping the player bond with their character and connect with the game world. It's also a huge seller for the game, well worth the effort.

Just my personal opinion as an MMO dev, macro customizations are better than micro. I hope they put that much effort into the monsters as well.
Man the extent of customization that goes into is beyond over the top ha, I salute the hair options but the eyes was taking the piss lol, camera distance wise.
Although ignoring sensible game visual planning, I for one think the characters look fantastic. Even if the males get 80% less care than the females heh.
I wonder what the game actually plays like or if that was their main selling point.
woaaaah ... in almost every Korean mmo game that i heard of .. the attention to details is just crazy .. even details that are not so noticeable like some of these

I don't know if you know about the Korean game market but this is like all they care about in games over there. There are an insane amount of MMO games available there and the largest focus of the game is customizing and outfitting your character. Its rather strange.
Looks really nice. It's hard to feel a connection to a character in an MMO when so many other characters look exactly the same other then their clothes/armor.
Hopefully there's an English release at some point.
The customization looks amazing. The base quality of the creature and character design and execution in the trailer posted above is really impressive. I thought I saw this a couple of years ago and subed to the Steparu youtube channel just to keep an eye on the development. Everytime I see the work it still blows my socks off. Thanks for posting the reminder!

With so many customization and proportion options plus the ability to pose them, seems very useful. Anyone else?
we did something like this for APB a few years ago, but damn this is taking it even further! The hair re-styling and curling looks really slick!
curious what the posing is used for

Yep, this.
You have to be familiar with the Poser community, right?
There's a huge demand for a simple posing app for people's original characters.
They released a standalone character creator,
