Just wanted to post an update on what I have been working on. The boat is still in its very early stages in 3ds max. Working on my control edges right now and then will take it into Zbrush for some good high poly sculpting of the wood planks and add some carving detail. Let me know what you think and any suggestions on where I should take it for more realism. I still have a lot to learn in the high to low poly spectrum of things so if you guys know of any good tools to help me out don't hesitate to tell me. Currently I use 3ds, Zbrush, Xnormals, Crazy bump, Marmoset TB and Photoshop of course. Also what would be a good poly count to shoot for, eventually going to bring it into UE4 with some other objects.
Edit: Any ideas on how I should do the sail?
