Hey Polycounters,
I want to pimp Portfolio with some new pieces. So i started wit a Scar-H. I think its a good rifle to gain some experiences in Submodelling and Texturing. But before i will start with detailing and adding stuff like Scope, Laser etc. i want to get some feedback.
So here is the Highpoly, i hope you like it so far

Although the short barrel version is only available in the Barbie-gun caliber light variant:
This pistol grip is rather blocky, and it appears too wide.
Oh and know i see that my magazine is to small ^^
I was going to point out that it looks like you are using the 5.56 L variant for the lower vs the 7.62 H. Otherwise, looks like a really good start. The gas block and the sights look juicy.
No problem! And from the outside, the only real visual difference is the length of the mag. The H is longer and a bit wider, as is the magwell to accommodate it. Otherwise the rest of the rifle looks exactly the same.
Here is a top down image of a 7.62 H magazine (top) vs a 5.56 L magazine (bottom) with a 7x42 in both. (7x42 is not a round the SCAR fires, but this is the best image I could find to compare the difference in size)
I say model it. It shouldn't add too much to the polycount if you are aiming for current specs.
haha...don't trust google xD
I have a update for you. I added dome details and blocked out the holographic sight, but i'm not sure if its the right one for a Scar. What is your opinion?
Last weekend i added a grip and modeled a new and not finished scope for my Scar. Hope you like it
I also have a small update for you. The finished highpoly of the Scope. If i have enogh time i will begin with the Low Poly this weekend.
look at this side reference, compare it to your side views of the model:
you can see it has a lot more detail, especially on the upper reciever. there are a lot of bolts and rivets and things that could be implemented fairly easily in floating geo then baked into your low poly. i recently did a scar h and it baked out nicely for me with the floating geometry.
you can also see your stock is lacking some certain features. ive highlighted stuff that may or may not need changing depending on preferences.
for a scar L, the shape of the magazine is not the conventional one used in almost all the references i checked. it has more of a curvature on it. the one you have currently modeled is the one used in a SCAR H usually, i'm not sure if they are interchangeable though.
the stock needs a hole through the top, as well as the upper part of the bit it collapses into needs a modification to it. at the moment it looks as if it is sat straight on top, whereas they overlap. also, the buttstock has slight ridges to it, as a portfolio piece you might want to cover all details, even if they arent visible.
anyways, good luck with it, youve got the majority of the form right, keep going with all the fixes. you'll be there in no time
i will make a new magazine, with the bend shape, i also will add the hole in the buttstock. The bolts will be modeled but i bake them on a flat plane and overlay them on the cage baked normal map of the Scar (i hope you know what i mean ^^)
