Zbrush - Mask and extract from thin mesh

Hello, I'm trying to make the following extract on Zbrush on that leg mesh to make a belt:

The problem is that when I mask the outter area, the inside of the mesh gets masked too and, obviously, when hit 'extract', it returns a very weird mesh, of both surfaces...

After searching a bit, I found the "Backface Auto Mask" which looks a lot like what I need here, but tried with it on and no different results :/

Anyone know how to get to mask only the outside of the mesh, thus returning a nice extract?

Thank you!

Backface masking should do it, did you make sure you put back face masking on your mask brush?
Its not a universal setting and is specific for each different brush.

Oh, that totally makes sense! That's some serious UI flaw... sometimes it's hard to know if I'm using a global setting, or brush specific, or subtool specific, etc.

Anyway, applying the settings specifically for the MaskPen works perfectly, but no luck with the other mask tools (curve, rect, etc). Any ideas what this may be?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Those brushes are designed to cut right through the document/tool - you can't have them do front faces only. If you think it would be easier to use them, then I'd recommend splitting your clothes up so that the inside is a different polygroup.

Hmm alright... I'm going to try something like that.

Thank you both for your replies :D

You could also duplicate the subtool, create a polygroup from the mask and delete everything apart from that polygroup, then just use Panel loops for extrusion - I prefer that as I find its a lot cleaner than the extract method.
