3D Environment Artist and 2D skills

I am getting ready to graduate in a few months and I have been seeing a lot lately on job listings that 2d art skills are recommended or required for certain jobs as an Environment Artsit. Unfortunately I have been spending all my time focusing on the 3D modeling and texturing side of things. With most of my textures going more towards photo real. As an aspiring 3D environment artist, what kinds of things or areas should I be focusing on to improve my 2D environment artist skills? If anyone has any recommended books or tutorials to help me out please let me know. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

By 2D, do they want you to draw and paint environments?

You can use Control Paint to get you started.

For more architectural drawings, learn about perspective.

Everything else I guess is learning different art fundamentals so look into the elements and principles of art.

If you tell us more about what you need help with, I could post some bookmarks that might be of help.

The reason why you see that, and something I have noticed lately as I get better with painting in photoshop, is it lets you communicate ideas a lot better and resolve issues much faster. Doing a really good paint over on your scene to tweak lighting, composition, color, and balance takes maybe an hour at most. Doing all those tweaks and experimenting in 3D could take you a couple days before you find the solution. If you are going to be learning some skills like that then try to have a clear focus on why and how it will benefit you.
