What is the best way to bounce between zbrush and max?
Right now I'm just doing it with goz - I blocked out the shape of a boot in zbrush, and tried to zremesh it and bring it over to Max. But Zremesh seems to make the mesh an endless spiral. So you can't use that as a base mesh to model from. So I just sent over a decimated version and box modeled a boot around that and goz'd that back over.
Alt + zremesh will change the algorithm.
There are a few tricks you can do to help control the results in order to eliminate spirals (crease curve + frame mesh, actually sculpting loops in, etc), but depending on the complexity of the mesh it might still be faster to retopo externally than to fight with zremesher.
It's still a different algorithm, which results in a different edge flow. Some people have better results dealing with spirals when using it. It's not an easy solution, but it can still be a tool to employ just like curves, cuts, and sliders
I'll just use zRemesher to get a basis to work from and model it myself. Or I should just suck it up and learn how to sculpt everything I need in Zbrush

Thank you for the help, i'll give the shift + zremesh a go.

But seriously, we all make mistakes I appreciated the help regardless.

there is no easy solution to get great topology with zremesher u just hawe to combine diffrent methods. use guides for edgh rings .also u can zremesh just an portion of ur mesh by hidng the rest.see this text .http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/topology/zremesher/partial-mesh/
