So about a week or two ago I completed an art test for a junior 3d artist position. The company has already replied that I passed it, so it's up to the interview now. Nevertheless, I'd love to share this work and get some critique if possible.
I had to create two assets. A rocky cliff that they provided photographic reference for, without any vegetation or anything like that. And a medieval wooden house that they only provided a rough sketch of.
I sculpted the cliff rocks, baked out normals and AO, and pretty much just overlayed these maps on top of plain colour base and rock texture to get this result.
House has only image-based textures. Thatching uses a tileable texture for the base, and the fluffy bits use the same texture, but with alpha test on. Planes with alphas have their normals copied from the roof base to achieve a more solid, smooth shading.
I could use default CryEngine Forest level to tweak the appearance of the assets. The other part of the test was to create a small environment using default assets, which is not too exciting, so I'm not going to post that.
The actual submit only contained the source files, so I didn't actually have to blend them in the environment.
So far the issues I see are that the underlying texture on the cliff is not too precise, and the thatching on the roof of the house is not the best. Materials in general could use some tweaking, but I'm not sure what exactly is wrong.
I'll appreciate any advice you might have.

But even if I don't get this job, it's been a nice learning experience. And crits are always beneficial.
Also post yer rock in this here thread, they might like it.
i do agree with the others, it looks good. wish there was more to it though. my only crit would be that the front of the rock feels soft, but looks like it should be angular. if you get what i mean.
