The right way to overlap UV's in Max/UE4?

So I've been told before, to maximize my texture density is to overlap the same UV's. Now when I started doing this, I find 3DS Max takes a really long time to render out the final texture sheet and when it does, it's with the red errors being displayed. I've been looking for tutorials but I keep coming across ones where the whole model has been unwrapped or it fixes overlapping.

I also plan on taking these overlapping textures into UE4 so are there any precautions I have to look out for?
