Make sure the link looks like the example Ben gave. For good measure I usually take the http off and make sure it's not hyperlinked either. That usually does the trick. To find the right video link sometimes I have to go to the channel that uploaded the video, find the video on their list of uploads, and then copy that address.
I used to follow the rule that if it doesn't show in the preview before you post, I won't show in the post. But that's been untrue for me lately.
If you have the "Automatically embed media" setting turned on for your account and the link is set correctly it will work. I think embed media defaults to off but if you do an advanced reply once and turn it on, it sticks.
Just paste the video code (something like: fpU1yqsT8_A) from whatever youtube link, after this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=[Video Code HERE]
Good example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpU1yqsT8_A
Make sure to use http:\\ not https\ that will cause it not to embed also.
At the bottom of the thread click on "Go Advanced" instead "Post Quick Reply". It will move your text from the "Quick Reply Window" to a "Reply Page" that has more options.
You should see this pop up under the "Reply to Thread Section":
