I have been working with 3D Max for 2 years now and I am still a Beginner when it comes to UV Unwrap anyone have a short cut to this for the life of me I can not understand the Maps ..sure its easy with a Box or a sphere what about something more complex like a space ship or a Character toon
anyone any help in this area would be greatly helpful

Watch all 10 videos. It goes from easy (unwrap a building) to hard (unwrap an organic mesh). It taught me everything I need to know so far about unwrapping. And it's all in 3DS Max too.
They did, it can be found in ZBrush. I love that button
XRayUnwrap also has a pretty Unwrap button. Requires a little more work than the ZBrush one though.

Select a group of faces and hit quick peel.
ALSO...
Planar map the whole object from one view.
Turn on point to point edge selection and draw out your seams.
Break the edges, select the elements and relax.
