Warhammer Orc

Hey guys

Long time lurker, first time poster. Anyway I know it's a bit of a cliche but here's an orc I am working on atm. It's actually a really old model I decided to fix up this weekend just gone and I could use some critique (anatomy in particular) and suggestions for armour / accessories. If people want I'll post what it looked like before I starting reworking it, it's pretty hilarious.

Cheers

Nath

Way too high subdivision level for the primary shapes, keep it around level 1-2 and block in the major shapes first, it'll look more refined in the end if you build it up this way rather than rushing to the higher subdivs. Also try to use as much reference as possible, are you using any particular refs?

Hey man cheers for the reply! Yeah I originally used minis as reference but have started using this for the face. choppa-look-01.jpg
He actually looks a bit better than what these images represent, not sure why. Yeah he is at about 1m polys atm was having trouble with the eyelids at lower density but have remeshed to have more density in that area now so should be better. I don't want to put him in the same pose as the above concept though as I prefer to rig this pose. I also know the arms look pretty different but this is somewhat more in line with the minis I have. I also don't really want him to be like a boss type character just a sort of fat roid gut orc if that makes any sense.

Hey again, that's cool - I wouldn't recommend using miniatures or the actual concept here as reference, only for the costume and character style in general. If you check out more real life bodybuilder type references it will give you a much better starting point.

Also, Sveiny did an awesome version of the warhammer orc here if you want to check it out: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=121733&highlight=warhammer+orc

Yeah that orc is amazing! Thanks for the link man. Anyway took your advice just dropped the subdiv level and am coming at it a bit more rough. Haven't really touched the face, mainly been focusing on the arms, shoulders and back. I've also rescaled the arms as a whole. Hopefully this represents an improvement, I've always struggled with the tricep/elbow and the back. I'm thinking I might need to sort of think about the plane changes in the back a bit more though. Not bothering with the legs as he's wearing pants.

One more quick update. Looking nicer :). Could use some crit with regards to the triceps / back / general anatomy.

Ok, found time to fix this guy up a bit the other day but forgot to post anything. As always cc is welcome! Haven't really touched the hands and the backs a little funky, abs also a sore point. Overall form is better though. Main body is on about 700k points atm, trying to keep it low but lower but the face doesnt hold detail at all in the low sub levels. Not paying too much attention to clothing / armour atm. daUQE8y.jpg

Here dude I made an paint over for the face since u need more interesting forms in his face to make this character pop. Also u need to check more anatomy refs. And the last thing I would recommend that u dont sculpt the arms in T-pose since it will make everything harder for u.

Cheers SveinY that looks awesome, I was planning on introducing some asymmetry once I got a little further but that paint over really gives me some ideas! I'll try adjusting the pose as well and see how I go. Guess I just have to keep chipping away at it when I have time. Thanks for the critique. I loved your orc btw!
