Hello everyone!
So while working over the summer on a game for my local aquarium, I became acquainted with some quite interesting lake residents. With some very highly scientific observational skills ('That turtle.. looks like a pancake'), I decided something needed to be done about it.
This project was basically an excuse for me to try my hand at sculpting/modelling food. And turtles because dang they're one of my favorite animals.
Silhouette is going to be super important for this one as sometimes turtles can look similar-ish, which is why I'm going to be basing at least three species of pretty different shapes. Havent drawn up designs for the last yet, but endgame goal is spiny softshell, sea turtle, and box turtle.
Suggestions for which version of each looks best, or which pieces work best are appreciated. Gonna do a mockup in maya to get shapes before sending it into Zbrush.
Here are the earliest 'I gotta sketch this before I forget it' concepts.
And some more refined idea concepts and their reference sheets for both a baby sea turtle and spiny softshell.

Revving up the engines on this and getting back to it. Got busy with production work and other misc. things.
Brought into Zbrush and getting into secondaries. Havent touched the cream puff much yet and just arranged the pancakes. crtiques appreciated
Back to the turtle... the pat of butter on top looks like a flame to me. I think a more traditional square or ball of butter might be easier to read.
Also, he could be literally swimming in syrup, maybe on a shallow dish...dang... now I have a sudden urge to go to Denny's...
Just seeing that pic gave me a pang of diabetes.
@DWalker Pancake rabbit is best rabbit. That is good reference for a pancake, though. That idea for presentation (or plating haha) of the turtle sounds great! And now I really want Denny's too...
@Torch And there's not even any syrup on that french toast yet..
update~ Not sure if I want to add syrup under the butter pat yet.
This is a really great idea and I'm happy to see you seem to be doing it justice. Will keep watching.
Finally was able to finish this guy, though =D
@bunneh13 @kaine123 Thanks!
@Two Listen so I know this is very very late, but I just wanted to say that little vote of confidence really pumped me up when I read it and I appreciated that. I hope you see this post now that it's done, haha.

Note: I'm going to work on a different project after this.
When I do start work on the next turtle, I'll update this thread (for anyone who wants to keep an eye out for more turtle-y goodness)
Its looking great keep it up
