3DS Max: Connect (poly) won't work on edges

I used to have the same key connect both edges and verts when I'm in their respective modes. For some reason it now refuses to work on edges and I have to manually select the command or use a different binding for it (connect edges). Connect (poly) should work on both. Any idea what might have went wrong and how I can get it to work again? I tried resetting to default, but that didn't help.
